Andy McCartney has been a licensed Professional Engineer since 1988.
He is also registered as a professional engineer in Ontario, Manitoba,
Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Metallurgical Engineering, with honors,
in 1985 from Queen's University. Andy is the manager of welding services for
Omniweld in Ontario and Western Canada. He is qualified as a Welding Engineer for CSA W47.1, W47.2, and W186. Andy is a Technical Committee member of CSA W47.1,
W47.2, W59 and W117.2.
Prior to joining Omniweld's Team in Ontario, Andy was with the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) for fourteen years. His most recent role was General Manager of the Gooderham Centre for Industrial Learning (GCIL). The focus of the GCIL is continuing education, computer software, development of curriculum and on-site training for the welding manufacturing and fabricating industry. His major responsibilities included the upgrading of the Modular Learning System and the Weld_IT software package. During his tenure at the CWB, Andy held a series of senior management positions including CWB Regional Manager for Ontario, Manager of Procedure Verification and the Project Manager for the CWB's involvement in the Hibernia Project.
Before working at the Canadian Welding Bureau, Andy worked as a thermal spray and equipment specialist, and Welding consultant with Eutectic & Castolin. He was responsible for developing thermal spray and plasma spraying procedures involving metallic, ceramic and plastic coatings for a variety of industries across Canada. In additional he provided technical support to the sales staff and developed welding procedures for fabrication and repairs. His client base spanned several industry sectors including mining, forestry, pulp and paper, power generation, transportation, food and steel making.
