Jean Venne is Omniweld Integrated Solutions' welding technologist in Montréal, Québec. Jean Venne graduated from Laval Institute of Technology in Montreal in 1965 as a welding technologist. He also completed one year at the University of Montréal in 1966. Prior to joining the Omniweld Team, Jean worked as a Senior CAP auditor with Air Liquide Canada Inc. He has been involved in at least 75% of all welding cost analysis audits done by Omniweld and has designed the various forms and report formats. He has also been involved in many other technical projects such as procedure development, monitoring of welding parameters and a number of training sessions. He is currently involved in the development and installation of the continuous monitoring systems such as CAP™ Optima and CWT Wirelog+.
Prior to joining Air Liquide Canada he was a welding technologist with a number of large fabricators and contractors, including Dominion Bridge, Marine Industries and the Canadian Steel Foundry. While working with these organizations, he was involved in the fabrication of a great variety of products, including: nuclear reactors, pressure vessels, bridges, oil rig platforms, ladles, ball mills, kilns, rope drums, mud drums, hydraulic turbines, and ships. He has experience in electroslag welding of different products, multi-wire submerged arc welding, submerged arc strip overlay, FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, arc air gouging, and more.
Some of his other achievements include:
- The development and application of electroslag welding procedure to nuclear reactors (a first in Canada)
- The design of a custom-made smoke extractor gun (Dominion Bridge)
- The design of a welding productivity measurement system (Dominion Bridge)
- Welding of 200 tons runners using the electroslag process (Dominion Bridge-Sulzer)
