Louis Croteau is a licensed Professional Engineer in the provinces of Québec, Ontario,
New Brunswick, Nova Scotia. Louis earned a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in 1985 and a Masters Degree in Metallurgical Engineering (Welding Option) in 1986.
Louis is qualified as a welding engineer for procedures and practice for CSA W47.1 and W47.2. Louis also leads welding productivity analysis projects
and is a qualified visual inspector level III as per CSA W 178.2.
After graduating from Laval University, Louis worked for two years in the steel and stainless steel fabricating industry before joining the Canadian Welding Bureau
(CWB). Amongst his other duties, he was the engineer in charge of approving the welding procedures submitted by welding engineers to the CWB. Louis was also in charge of monitoring the electrode testing of CWB-certified electrodes in Québec and worked on special projects such as the Hibernia Project. During this project he monitored the welding procedure tests and the related mechanical tests. He was later in charge of the education division of the CWB in Québec, where he was involved in the preparation of documents and courses on
aluminium welding, quenched and tempered steels, stainless steel welding, magnesium welding, welding metallurgy, and other welding-related topics.
Louis has worked with GMAW, FCAW, MCAW, GTAW, and SAW processes and has worked with the following standards: CSA W47.1, CSA W47.2, CSA W59, CSA W59.2, CSA W186, AWS D1.1, AWS D1.3, AWS D1.6 and also the ASME section IX code.
