Viwek Vaidya has held several welding engineering positions with Dominion Bridge, Canron and Combustion Engineering. He has built pressure vessels, bridges, paper machines, mining equipment, hydro gates, refinery equipment and nuclear reactors.
Viwek has traveled extensively in North America, Europe, China and New Zealand, applying welding engineering solutions for the past 32 years.
Viwek is the Chair of the Canadian Steering Committee on Welding and Structural Materials.
He is a member of the AWS D3B committee on underwater welding. Viwek is a member of the international ISO TC 44 Committee on Welding and carries the Canadian vote. Viwek teaches welding at McGill University and lectures from time to time at the University of Waterloo, the University of Milwaukee at Wisconsin and the École Polytechnique, at the University of Montreal.
Viwek holds several patents, namely -US patents 5,273, 216; 5,313,039; 6,051,805 and 6,547,176B1. One of the patents deals with a shielding gas ARCAL™ 211 that reduces welding fumes.
Viwek is responsible for overseeing the R&D activities and patents at Air Liquide in the Metal Fabrication Group.
He is also responsible for business development interfacing with business partners with new technologies, products and services in North America. Viwek is a frequent speaker at conferences arranged by American and Canadian welding societies.
Viwek is keenly involved in welding technology, its development, selection and application and has been with Air Liquide Canada Inc., since November 1986. In 1997, Viwek Vaidya, in collaboration with Fernand Gauthier, were awarded the first prize at the Air Liquide International Innovation Forum in Milan, Italy for the CAP program.
The Lean/CAP program brings quality and efficiency to metal fabrication operations through its patented technology.
Viwek was admitted to the United States National Register, Who’s Who, as an Honored Professional. He was also designated in March 2003 with the prestigious title of Air Liquide Senior Expert in the Applications and Services Worldwide category.
